Delgado takes 20-12 win over Baton Rouge to complete weekend conference sweep

Delgado defeated Baton Rouge 20-12 in eight innings Sunday to complete the weekend conference sweep at Pete Goldsby Field.

The Dolphins kick-started its offense with eleven runs on seven hits in the top of the first inning, including a two run double by Tyler Cook, an RBI single by Jake Kaufmann, a double and fielder’s choice by Jacob Singletary and a grand slam by Brock Slaton. Cade Pregeant’s RBI double in the second plated Giovanni Licciardi who reached as a hit batter.

Baton Rouge scored three on a bases-clearing triple by Collin Dupre in the second. The Bears added two in the third to make for a 12-5 game.

In the Dolphin fifth, Tyler Cook reached as a hit batter and Jake Kaufmann walked before scoring on a double by Giovanni Licciardi and a sacrifice fly by Cade Pregeant scored them. Licciardi scored on a single by Bryan Broussard.

Baton Rouge escaped a mercy rule decision by scoring three runs on back to back home runs with two outs in the fifth. The Bears added four more runs in the sixth to narrow the Delgado lead to three runs though six innings.

The Dolphins answered with two two-run singles by Cade Pregeant and Jacob Singletary. Josh Alexander scored on a wild pitch for the final Delgado run to secure the eight inning victory.

Reliver Kyle St. Pierre picked up the win, pitching the sixth inning in relief of starter Logan O’Neill (2.0 IP) and Tyler Velino (3.0+ IP). Kaile Levatino closed the game’s final two innings, holding Baton Rouge to two hits to earn the save.

In total, each batter in the Delgado lineup had at least one hit in the game and eight batters had at least one RBI. The Dolphins closed the game with 16 hits and 19 RBI.

Delgado (29-4, 6-0) will meet Baton Rouge at 6pm Tuesday at Southeastern Louisiana University in Hammond.
