Delgado sweeps Nunez in two mercy rule decisions in Sunday doubleheader

Delgado’s bats combined for 22 runs on 27 hits to walk away with two mercy rule wins in Sunday’s doubleheader against Nunez Community College at Suarez Stadium in Chalmette.

In the first game, Brayden Caskey, Brayden Jobert, and Jobee Boone had two homeruns each to lead the Dolphin offense’s fourteen hits before a 10-0, five inning win over the Pelicans. Stephen Klein and Brennan Lambert each had a double and single. Starting pitcher Cory Cook went the distance, allowing only three hits and striking out eight in his five innings of shutout work.

In game two, Delgado scored a run in the first before Nunez took a brief 2-1 lead with two runs later in the inning. The Dolphins batted around in the second to plate seven runs, four coming on a grand slam by Stephen Klein. Delgado added a run in the third on an RBI double by Michael Stutes and a run in the fifth on a double by Brennan Lambert. Brayden Caskey reached on a single in the sixth before scoring on a homerun by Ethan Lege to give Delgado the 12-2 lead to secure the six inning, mercy rule win. Ian Landreneau pitched the complete game to earn the win, allowing four hits and striking out nine Nunez batters.

Delgado will host Baton Rouge in a 4:00 conference doubleheader Wednesday at Kirsch-Rooney.

Schedule Note: The Delgado/LSU-Alexandria doubleheader scheduled for Monday, April 12 has been rescheduled for Sunday, April 18 at 2:00 at Kirsch-Rooney Stadium.
