Delgado defeated Nunez Community College in both games of Sunday’s doubleheader at Kirsch-Rooney Stadium. The teams’ first-ever meeting was delayed due to Saturday’s weather, forcing the postponement.

In game one, Zach Dorsey doubled to score Alex Powell and Jared Montz’s groundout scored Dominic Curole (who singled) to give Nunez the early 2-0 lead. In the bottom frame, Delgado’s Brandon Duhon singled and Brandon Briuglio reached on an error before both runs scored on Blake Way’s three-run homerun to give the Dolphins a 3-2 lead.

Lyall Ball’s two-run single in the fourth scored Ross Scelfo and Gabe Gravois, who reached on a walk and single respectively. Nunez’s Zach Dorsey homered in the sixth to close the game’s scoring enroute to Delgado’s 5-3 victory.

Dolphin starter Chris Turpin picked up the win with Zachary Roussel earning the save in relief.

A sacrifice fly plated Nunez’s run in the first in Gavin Amedeo, who singled to open the game. Brandon Duhon led off the Delgado frame with a single, advanced on a wild pitch and single by Blake Way, and scored on Grant Schulz’s sacrifice fly to tie the game 1-1. Lyall Ball and Brandon Duhon walked in the second and scored on a double by Brandon Briuglio.

Briuglio went on to score on a double by Blake Way as Delgado took a 4-1 lead. Briuglio doubled in the fifth and scored on a double by Way, who scored on a balk. Briuglio doubled again in the fifth (his third of the day) and scored on Grant Schulz’s single.

Cole Martin pitched the complete game, allowing one run on three hits and striking out seven Pelican batters.

Delgado will host Coastal Alabama-South in a 3:00 doubleheader Tuesday at Kirsch-Rooney Stadium with the second game (6:30 first pitch) airing on Cox Sports Television. The Dolphins will travel to Southwest Mississippi on Wednesday.
