Delgado split Saturday’s Region XXIII conference doubleheader against Nunez Community College at Kirsch-Rooney Stadium, falling to the Pelicans 9-0 in game one before rebouding in an 11-6 win in game two.

Nunez dominiated game one offensively, capitalizing on a seven run sixth inning to expand a two run lead to a nine run lead. In the inning, the Pelicans picked up two runs on a two run single by Noah Detillier and a two run double by Sully Stringer, also capitalizing on two Delgado errors to take the commanding 9-0 win in game one to snap the Dolphins’ conference win streak.

Nunez’s Eli Woodward went the distance on the mound, holding Delgado to no runs and only four hits.

Delgado’s tide turned in game two when the Dolphins sent nine batters to the plate in the first to post five runs on three hits, including a two run single by Rhett Centanni and a two run double by Josh Eames and a sacrifice fly by Giovanni Licciardi.

In the second, a three run double by Eli Booth and a ground out by Giovanni Licciardi plated four runs before Walker Bazile’s RBI single plated Logan O’Neill to give Delgado the 10-4 lead through two. Nunez plated two runs in the fourth on RBIs by Colin Cure and Evan Rohlfs. Walker Bazile’s double in the fourth scored Josh Eames for the final run in Delgado’s 11-6 win over Nunez to earn the split.

Remy Marsh picked up the win in relief of starter Michael Hotard, who pitched into the fourth inning. The win marked Delgado’s 13th win of the campaign.

Delgado (30-10, 7-1) and Nunez will close out the series Sunday at 1:00 at “Rags” Scheuermann Field at Kirsch-Rooney Stadium.
