Delgado splits doubleheader Saturday in “Rags” Scheuermann Memorial

Delgado split a doubleheader Saturday, falling to Pensacola State College 10-4 before rebounding in an 11-1 mercy rule win over Bryant & Stratton in the nighcap.

In game one, Delgado took an early 3-0 lead in the first following a RBI single by Rhett Centanni and a two run double by Eli Booth. Another RBI single by Booth in the third added a fourth run.

In the fourth, Pensacola State capitalized on six hits and three Delgado errors to send 15 batters to the plate to take a 9-4 lead. Pensacola added a tenth run on a double in the sixth to secure the 10-4 win over Delgado.

Connor Achee (3.2 innings) suffered the loss on the mound, with Alex Laiche (1.1) and Morgan Sauber (2.0) appearing in relief. Sauber retired the final six Pirate batters of the game.

Bryant & Stratton took an early 1-0 lead in the first on a solo homerun. Delgado’s Casey Artigues reached as a hit batter, advanced on a double by Christian Westcott, and scored on a sacrifice fly by Jack Walker to tie the game 1-1. Westcott scored on an infield error and Booth singled to score Rhett Centanni, who reached on a walk as Delgado held a 3-1 lead through one inning of play.

Westcott’s RBI double in the second added a run. In the fourth, the Dolphins batted around to send eleven to the plate, posting six runs on four hits, including RBI singles by Westcott, Walker, and Josh Eames to expand the lead to 10-1. Logan O’Neill’s solo walkoff homerun to lead off the sixth inning lifted Delgado to the 11-1 mercy rule win over the Bobcats.

Starter Remy Marsh (1-0) picked up his first win of the season with Will Kibbe (2.0) and Alex Lagasse (1.0) appearing in relief.
