Delgado defeats Triton College in Saturday doubleheader to sweep 2019 Disney Invitational

Lake Buena Vista, Florida — Delgado defeated Triton College (Illinois) 7-2 and 8-4 Saturday to close out its appearance in the 2019 Disney Baseball Spring Invitational at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex.

In the first game, Triton took a 2-0 lead in the second off of a sacrifice fly and a solo homerun. In the fourth, four consecutive Dolphin singles plated three runs to allow Delgado a 3-2 lead. A solo homerun by Ross Scelfo in the sixth added a Delgado run.

The following frame, Hayden Fuentes reached on a single, advanced on a sacrifice by Mason Keller, and scored on an outfield error that allowed Connor Feustle to reach base. Brandon Briuglio walked and Feustle later scored on a single by Grant Schulz. Briuglio scored on a single by Justin Ory to close the scoring enroute to Delgado’s 7-2 win over Triton.

Payton Russell pitched the complete game to earn the win, holding Triton to only two hits.

In game two, Triton posted two runs on five hits in the second inning. Delgado hit the board in the third when Connor Feustle and Brandon Briuglio reached on back to back singles and scored on a three run homerun by Grant Schulz to give the Dolphins a 3-2 lead.

Two Triton runs in the fourth put the Trojans back on top before Delgado batted around in the bottom frame to post five runs on six singles and a double to make it an 8-4 contest.

Triton left six runners on base in their last three innings at the plate as Brock Daniels (1.0 IP) and Dwain Varisco (1.0 IP) closed the game in relief of starter Zach Roussel, who pitched into the sixth to earn the win.

With Saturday’s wins, Delgado closes it 2019 Disney Spring Training appearance a perfect 5-0, having defeated Erie College on Wednesday and Mott Community College in both games of Friday’s doubleheader.
