Crescent City Sports’ extensive live streaming coverage of high school sports begins a new season Friday with an intriguing non-district football matchup between Amite and Country Day.
Air time for the broadcast of the season opener for both teams is just prior to the scheduled 4 p.m. kickoff from Wenzel Field. Lenny Vangilder will call the play-by-play.
Amite coach Zephaniah Powell’s roster features two of the nation’s highest-rated uncommitted senior prospects in defensive tackle Ishmael Sopsher and wide receiver/defensive back Devonta Lee.
Crescent City Sports’ Rene Nadeau ranked the duo 1-2 on his list of New Orleans area college prospects in the Class of 2019. The composite rankings by 247 Sports list Sopsher (6-foot-5, 280 pounds) as the No. 6-ranked player in the nation and No. 2 in Louisiana, while Lee (6-3, 193) is ranked No. 120 overall and sixth in Louisiana.
Country Day coach Joe Chango returns several key players, including junior quarterback Justin Ibieta – No. 21 in Nadeau’s recently released Class of 2020 rankings. Ibieta (6-5, 215) accounted for nearly 2,700 yards and 32 touchdowns as a sophomore.
The Warriors finished 11-2 last season and lost in the Class 2A semifinals, while the Cajuns were 6-5 and eliminated in the Division III opening round. Coincidentally, both teams were knocked out of the playoffs by teams they had defeated in the regular season – Amite to St. Helena, Country Day to Episcopal.
The teams are meeting for the second consecutive year. Amite defeated Country Day 28-7 in Week 1 a year ago in Amite City.
Crescent City Sports will feature live streaming of no fewer than 30 high school sporting events throughout the 2018-19 school year. Additionally, in cooperation with Cox Sports Television, CCS will also produce up to 10 more events that will both be televised on CST and streamed on the site.
