BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION, Texas – McNeese’s baseball team (0-2) fell to Texas A&M (2-0) 6-1 after holding the matchup close for seven innings at Blue Bell Park Saturday afternoon.

“I was proud of how our guys came out today,” said head coach Justin Hill.

Redshirt sophomore Braley Hollins earned two hits for a .500 average on the day. Rounding out the blue and gold’s five total hits were redshirt senior Chase Keeton, senior Parker Stroh, junior Conner Westenburg, and senior Braden Duhon.

The Aggies scored the initial run of the game in the fifth inning after being held scoreless the first four. Duhon singled up the middle in the top of the seventh to bring in Westenberg to tie up the ballgame at one a piece.

A&M brought in three runs in the bottom of the seventh to make it a 4-1 game in favor of the maroon. A couple more runs were plated by Texas A&M in the eighth making the score 6-1.

Cameron Lejeune, a redshirt junior, had a strong performance on the mound to get things going, pitching five innings and collecting eight strikeouts in the outing. His day began with three batters up, all three striking out to set the tempo. Senior Ty Abraham entered the game for 1.1 innings, earning one strikeout before sophomore Caleb Strmiska came in relief to conclude the game with 1.2 innings pitched and two strikeouts.

The win was attributed to Brock Peery with the loss given to Abraham.

Hill commented, “I though Cameron gave us the start we needed to give us a chance to win.”
