THIBODAUX, La. – Winners of two straight, the Nicholls State University football team moved back into the top 20 of the AFCA Coaches and FCS STATS Top 25 polls, coming in at No. 16 and 17 in Week 10’s edition.

Nicholls (6-3) secured its second straight winning season after defeating HBU Saturday on the road, 41-20. The Colonels climbed up from No. 20 in both polls, receiving 249 points in the AFCA and 1,301 in the STATS.

The Red and Gray are the top-ranked team in the Southland Conference for the first time this season after McNeese slid to No. 18 following its second double-digit setback in the last three weeks. Sam Houston State and Central Arkansas also lost over the weekend and both teams fell out of the rankings for the first time this year.

Nicholls is currently in a tie for first place in the Southland standings with McNeese and UIW – all 5-2 in league play. The Colonels play at home against Stephen F. Austin this weekend while McNeese travels to Northwestern State and UIW heads to Central Arkansas. The Bears of UCA are one of four teams tied for second at 4-3.
