Clicking at the right time, Privateers race past Demons with big second half

NEW ORLEANS – The Privateers (8-14, 7-7 Southland) began the second half on a 10-0 run and split the regular-season series with a 92-83 victory over Northwestern State (9-17, 8-7 Southland) Wednesday evening at Lakefront Arena.

Momentum is on New Orleans’ side as the Privateers have now won four of five and began the final week of the regular season 2-0. The Privateers continued to shoot the ball well, going 37-of-66 from the field. Four student-athletes reached double figures, led by Troy Green’s 19 points, eight rebounds and seven assists. Rodney Carson Jr. added 16 points on 7-of-9 shooting, Damion Rosser posted 13 points and three steals and Ahren Freeman came off the bench with 12 points and five assists.

Carson Jr.’s 16 points tie a career-high, set earlier this season against Stephen F. Austin.

New Orleans outscored Northwestern State by 16 in the second half and posted 26 fast break points.

THE BELL EFFECT
Since making his collegiate debut, D’Ante Bell and the Privateers are 4-1. He finished with nine points and four rebounds to go with one block.

UNSELFISH PLAY
The Privateers dished out 26 assists on 36 made field goals. Four players recorded four or more assists, led by Green and Derek St. Hilaire’s seven apiece.

POINTS ON POINTS
Tonight was the third-highest scoring total for UNO this season. In those games, UNO is now 2-1.

NEXT UP
Senior Night closes out the regular season as the Privateers look to move to a No. 4 seed in the upcoming 2021 Southland Conference Tournament. UNO hosts Southeastern at 7 p.m. at Lakefront Arena. Prior to the game, Rosser, Green, St. Hilaire, Charles Bohannon and Lamont Berzat will be honored for their contributions to the program.
