Junior shortstop named to third-team by Perfect Game
LAFAYETTE – Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns baseball player Kyle DeBarge earned 2024 Preseason All-America honors as the junior shortstop was named a third-team selection on Thursday by Perfect Game.
DeBarge, one of two Sun Belt Conference players selected, led Louisiana at the plate in 2023 with a .371 batting average while leading the team in on-base percentage (.448). The Kinder, Louisiana native and former Barbe High product earned All-Sun Belt Conference and All-Louisiana honors last season for the Ragin’ Cajuns and was named to both the SBC and NCAA Coral Gables Regional All-Tournament teams.
DeBarge belted seven home runs and drove in 38 RBI in 54 games on the season for the Ragin’ Cajuns with 52 starts. He recorded a 13-game hit streak during the season where he posted a .386 average (22-for-57).
He finished 10-for-21 (.476) at the plate in the Sun Belt Conference Championships and played for the Falmouth Commodores in the Cape Cod League finishing with a .267 average with 15 RBI.
Louisiana, which finished 41-24 last season, will officially open its 2024 season on Feb. 16 when it plays host to Wright State in a three-game series at M.L. “Tigue” Moore Field at Russo Park.
