THIBODAUX, La. – The Nicholls State University baseball team tallied 10 hits in its 13-5 victory over Northwestern State University on Ben Meyer Diamond at Ray E. Didier Field on Sunday afternoon.

The Colonels set the tone early as they scored seven runs in the first two innings including six in the opener. After beginning the game with three walks, Garrett Felix got the scoring started with a two-run single.

Drake Anderson, who finished the contest 5-for-5, doubled the Colonels’ lead as he brought Felix and Gerardo Villarreal to the plate with a base hit. Anderson scored on a bases loaded hit by pitch and Basiel Williams reached base on an error and later scored on a Parker Coddou ground out. In the second stanza, Felix scored on another Anderson base hit to put the Red & Gray up 7-0.

In the third, the Demons scored two runs on a pair of doubles by Reese Lipoma and Balin Valentine. However, the Colonels got the two runs back in the same inning when Edgar Alvarez hit a single up the middle that brought Coddou and Kade Turnage home.

Northwestern State picked up another run in the fourth on a hit by pitch. After that, Cade Crosby blasted a solo home run to right field in the home half’s opening pitch followed by a Coddou sacrifice fly and a two-out Alvarez RBI single that put the Colonels up 12-3.

The Demons added a pair of runs on a Rocco Gump home run to right field in the sixth and Anderson picked up his fourth RBI of the day with a single in the seventh.

Starting pitcher Michael Quevedo improved to 5-0 on the season after striking out eight batters, while allowing three runs and five hits in five full innings of action. Gavin Galy, Dallis Moran, Chase Richter, and Sam Hill pitched one full inning apiece.
