THIBODAUX, La. – For the second time in three games, the Nicholls State University baseball team was on the short end of a 10-inning affair as the Colonels were defeated by Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, 4-3, Saturday night on Ben Meyer Diamond at Ray E. Didier Field.

Nicholls (12-12, 4-4 SLC) jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first before the Islanders scored one in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings. Dillon Belle tied the game with an RBI double in the bottom half but it would be the last run for the Colonels.

In the 10th, a leadoff hit-by-pitch issued by Zach Autin (0-2) got things started for the visitors. Following a sac bunt, Matthew Harrison allowed a base hit to right and the Colonels elected to walk the bases loaded. But Nick Anderson then drew a four-pitch walk for a 4-3 advantage.

For the Colonel 10th, Chris Sandberg smacked a double to left to lead off the frame. Facing Cody LeCompte, Waylon LeBlanc tried to move the runner over on a bunt but popped out to LeCompte. Ethan Valdez and Dane Simon followed with flyouts to end the game.

Jacob Bedevian had a solid showing on the mound, scattering six hits with three runs in eight innings. He had four strikeouts and walked none.

Nicholls gave Bedevian an early lead to work with by jumping all over Islander starter Leo Perez, singling on the first three pitches they saw. Valdez had an infield single to start the spurt, with Simon following with a base hit to right. Belle made it 1-0 with a single to left and Alec Paz gave Nicholls a 2-0 lead on a sac fly.

But the Islander pitching staff held the Colonels to the two lone doubles the rest of the game. LeCompte earned the win with 2.2 innings of relief.
