New Orleans’ Amani Larry and Southeastern's Adam Guth

FRISCO, Texas – New Orleans’ Amani Larry is the Southland Conference Hitter of the Week and Southeastern starter Adam Guth earns Pitcher of the Week honors, the league announced Monday. Weekly awards are presented by GEICO.

Larry was a catalyst for the Privateers’ offense in a series victory over Oklahoma in which UNO scored 29 runs, recording multi-hit games in each contest and tallying nine RBI on the weekend. He also helped turn five double plays over the three games for the Privateers, who rank second nationally with 1.28 per game this season. UNO (12-6) hosts Southern Miss at 6:30 p.m. CT Tuesday before beginning conference play against Northwestern State at home at 6:30 p.m. Friday.

Guth couldn’t have picked a better night to earn his first career win, tossing a career-high five innings in the Lions’ 5-1 upset of No. 1 Ole Miss last Tuesday. He limited the Rebels to one run on three hits and struck out three to help SLU earn its second win over a top-three opponent this spring. The Lions (8-12) visit Tulane at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday and open up Southland Conference action with a three-game series versus rival Nicholls beginning at 6 p.m. Friday.

Hitter of the Week – Amani Larry, New Orleans – Sophomore – Infielder – Bossier City, La.
Larry registered multiple hits in each of the Privateers’ four contests last week and totaled nine RBI for a high-octane UNO offense. Following a 2-for-4 performance in a loss to South Alabama, he erupted for six RBI in a 10-7 comeback victory over the Sooners. Larry drove in three on back-to-back base hits in the eighth and ninth innings and sealed the win with a two-run double in the 12th. After going 2-for-5 with an RBI on Saturday, he wrapped up the weekend with a pair of RBI in a series-clinching win on Sunday.

Honorable Mention: Brad Burckel, McNeese; Brendan Ryan, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi; Daunte Stuart, Northwestern State; Shea Thomas, Southeastern.

Pitcher of the Week – Adam Guth, Southeastern – Freshman – Starting Pitcher – Lake Charles, La.
Earning his first collegiate victory, Guth shut down No. 1 Ole Miss’ lineup, which mustered just one run on three hits on the rookie hurler. He set down the first five in order and, after giving up the only run, allowed just three men to reach base the rest of his outing as the Lions’ hitters did the rest. Guth finished with three punchouts as SLU went on to secure its second win over a top-three program this season.

Honorable Mention: Caleb Seroski, New Orleans; Chance Stone, McNeese; Hayden Thomas, Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.
