Manning Futures QBs New Orleans high schools

Four Nola area QBs honored as Quarterbacks of the Week; fans can vote for favorite on Twitter

NEW ORLEANS – The Allstate Sugar Bowl has announced this week’s Manning Award Futures – four local high school quarterbacks who turned in outstanding performances on the football field this past weekend. Fans now have the opportunity to go to Twitter (@SugarBowlNola) to vote for their favorite performance of the week.

The Manning Award, which recognizes the top collegiate quarterback in the nation on an annual basis, was created by the Allstate Sugar Bowl in 2004 to honor the college football accomplishments of Archie, Peyton and Eli Manning.

Manning Award Futures – High School QBs of the Week, 11/8/21:

Grant Billson, St. Paul’s School (12-of-18, 231 yards, 3 TDs)

Billson, who connected on three TD passes of 40 or more yards, led the Wolves to a 37-3 District 6-5A victory win over Fontainebleau at Hunter Stadium.

Kylon Harris, East St. John High School (26-of-39, 685 total yards, 9 TDs)

Harris, a receiver, became the Wildcats’ quarterback when ESJ lost its top two QBs to injury. He threw for 548 yards and four TDs, ran for 103 yards and four more TDs and also collected 110 return yards in a 62-60 loss to St. Thomas More.

Arthur Oliver, East Jefferson (13-of-19, 331 total yards, 4 TDs)

Oliver passed for 237 yards and ran for 94 yards as the Warriors upended District 8-5A rival West Jefferson, 28-16, to clinch a playoff spot.

Michael Talbot, Country Day (342 total yards, 5 TDs)

Talbot, who passed for 288 yards, including scoring passes of 31, 35, 62 and 67 yards, also rushed for 54 yards and a touchdown as he directed the Cajuns to a 38-31 win over Riverside to clinch the District 9-1A title.

The Allstate Sugar Bowl has established itself as one of the premier college football bowl games, having hosted 28 national champions, 99 Hall of Fame players, 51 Hall of Fame coaches and 19 Heisman Trophy winners in its 87-year history. The 88th Allstate Sugar Bowl Football Classic, which will feature top teams from the Big 12 and the SEC, is scheduled to be played on January 1, 2022. In addition to football, the Sugar Bowl Committee annually invests over $1 million into the community through the hosting and sponsorship of sporting events, awards, scholarships and clinics.
