College Football Playoff Semifinal Will Feature Another Full House in the Superdome

NEW ORLEANS – The 2024 Allstate Sugar Bowl is sold out, the Sugar Bowl Committee announced on Wednesday. This year’s game (Monday, January 1) will double as a College Football Playoff Semifinal and will be televised live by ESPN from the Caesars Superdome beginning at 7:45 p.m. (Central). The 90th annual Sugar Bowl Classic will feature over 68,000 fans (current capacity is 68,400) for the 67th time in its history.

While the game is officially sold out, the Sugar Bowl Committee encourages fans still looking to purchase tickets to visit Ticketmaster as the official verified resale platform of the 2024 Playoff Semifinal at the Allstate Sugar Bowl.

The Allstate Sugar Bowl will be doubling as a College Football Playoff (CFP) Semifinal for the fourth time since the start of the new college football postseason format which was established for the 2014 season. The three previous Playoff Semifinals combined for nearly 70 million worldwide viewers on ESPN’s platforms.

This season will mark the final year of the current four-team format for the CFP. Starting with the 2024 regular season, the CFP will expand to a 12-team playoff. The Allstate Sugar Bowl will host Playoff Quarterfinals following both the 2024 and 2025 seasons.

The match-up for the 2024 Allstate Sugar Bowl will be determined by the CFP Selection Committee. The Committee will rank the top teams in the country with the top four in the final ranking (to be released Sunday, December 3, on a live ESPN broadcast) being paired up in the Playoff Semifinals. The other Playoff Semifinal will be played at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, Calif. The winners of the two semifinal games will advance to play in the College Football Playoff National Championship Game in Houston on January 8.

Other activities during the week of the Allstate Sugar Bowl will include the Allstate Sugar Bowl New Year’s Eve Parade and the Allstate Sugar Bowl Tailgate Town. The New Year’s Eve Parade is a Mardi Gras-style parade with floats, bands and other participants that is sure to entertain fans young and old on the afternoon of December 31 in the French Quarter. Located in Champions Square on the campus of the legendary Superdome, Tailgate Town is the official pregame festival of the Allstate Sugar Bowl. The bands and cheerleaders of the participating schools are scheduled to make appearances at both events.

The Allstate Sugar Bowl has established itself as one of the premier college football bowl games, having hosted 28 national champions, 102 Hall of Fame players, 52 Hall of Fame coaches and 21 Heisman Trophy winners in its 89-year history. The 90th Allstate Sugar Bowl Football Classic, which will double as a College Football Playoff Semifinal, is scheduled to be played on January 1, 2024. In addition to football, the Sugar Bowl Committee annually invests over $1 million into the community through the hosting and sponsorship of sporting events, awards, scholarships and clinics. Through these efforts, the organization supports and honors thousands of student-athletes each year, while injecting nearly $2.4 billion into the local economy in the last decade.
