MONTGOMERY, Ala. – For the first time this season and fourth time in his career, Loyola’s Stephen Still has been selected as the Southern States Athletic Conference (SSAC) Baseball Pitcher of the Week.

It’s the second Pitcher of the Week award won by a Loyola pitcher this season, as Payton Cooper also won on February 19. Still got the award in the second week of last season, as well as twice in his sophomore year.

Still started the weekend off strong for the Pack in a 5-1 win against Tennessee Southern, nearly shutting out the Firehawks. In the first game of a Friday doubleheader, the Baton Rouge native went the full seven innings to earn his eighth win of the season, which is tied for the second-most wins in a season by a Wolf Pack pitcher in program history.

Only three players got on base for the Firehawks against Still, as he allowed just three hits with no walks. He also struck out a season-high nine batters to bring his season strikeout total to 71, currently the fifth-most in a season in program history.

So far this season, Still has started 12 games for the Pack with 66 innings and a 3.68 ERA, which is the second-best in the conference among qualifying pitchers. He’s also fifth in the conference in strikeouts and third in wins.

The Wolf Pack (35-12, 18-9 SSAC) will play one more series in New Orleans before the conference tournament, an important matchup with No. 25 William Carey. The series, which will be played at Greer Field at Turchin Stadium, is set to begin on Thursday, April 25, with a game at 6 p.m.
