SAN ANTONIO, Texas — Xavier University of Louisiana tied a school record Saturday in its 68-40 Red River Athletic Conference women’s basketball victory against Our Lady of the Lake.

The Gold Nuggets (9-2 overall, 6-0 RRAC) matched a school record for scoring defense in one quarter when they outscored the Saints 18-4 in the second. This is the ninth season that U.S. college women’s games are played in quarters.

It was the second consecutive game that the Gold Nuggets allowed four points in a quarter. They did it in the opening period Thursday in a conference victory at Huston-Tillotson.

XULA led 31-16 at halftime and cruised to its seventh double-digit victory this season.

Taylor Dewitt had 13 points and 11 rebounds — her third double-double this season — for XULA. Teammate Patricia Sosa Lora had 13 points and nine rebounds, both season highs. Rayna Ross and Shylia McGee scored eight points apiece.

Tiffany Lopez had 13 points and 10 rebounds for the Saints (3-9, 2-5), who have lost six straight.

This is the Gold Nuggets’ first 6-0 start in conference since 2018-19, when they were 7-0 in the Gulf Coast Athletic. XULA shares first place in the RRAC with LSU-Shreveport, which won 73-65 at Paul Quinn.

The Gold Nuggets will play at 5:30 p.m. Thursday at home against LSU-Alexandria in XULA’s Convocation Center. LSUA is 5-1 in the RRAC after a 70-50 victory at Jarvis Christian.
