Right-hander becomes 17th player in school history to be called up to “The Show”

LAFAYETTE – Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns Baseball alum Spencer Arrighetti became the 17th player in school history to reach the Major Leagues, when he was called up by the Houston Astros from Triple-A Sugar Land late Tuesday.

Arrighetti, who will start in his Major League debut on Wednesday at Kansas City, had a 2.16 ERA through his first two starts in Triple-A. He was selected as the organization’s Minor League Pitcher of the Year in 2023 and was rated as the No. 3 overall prospect in the Astros’ farm system.

Arrighetti, who finished his career at Louisiana in 2021 after stints at TCU and Navarro Junior College, led the Ragin’ Cajuns with 83.2 innings pitched, posting a 7-6 record with a 3.12 ERA and a team-high 91 strikeouts.

The Katy, Texas, native’s top performance of the season came against Sun Belt Conference foe Coastal Carolina when he fanned 11 batters and only allowed three hits in 7.1 innings of work.

The right-hander made his Ragin’ Cajuns debut against Louisiana Tech tossing 6.2 innings of one-hit ball with nine strikeouts in a 2-0 victory.
