Former New Orleans Hornets swingman Rasual Butler and his wife were killed during a single-car wreck in California early Wednesday, according to a report from TMZ.

The 38-year old Butler, who last played for the Hornets in Oklahoma City and New Orleans from 2005-09, reportedly lost control of his Range Rover at about 2 a.m. while driving in Studio City. The vehicle struck a parking meter and slammed into a wall before flipping.

Butler’s wife, Leah LaBelle, who appeared on “American Idol” in 2004, also was killed in the crash.

Butler played in the NBA starting in 2002 and ended his career with the Spurs in 2016.
