Zachary takes top spot in CCS Rankings entering Week 10

One of the power programs in the state, Zachary is poised to make a serious run at a fourth Class 5A state title in seven years.

The Broncos remain unbeaten at 9-0 and ascend to the top spot in this week’s CrescentCitySports.com rankings, replacing Catholic of Baton Rouge, which lost to Woodlawn of Baton Rouge. Unbeaten Ponchatoula moves up to second with Catholic falling to third. Acadiana is fourth and unbeaten Destrehan moves up to fifth. Ruston is up to sixth with Jesuit moving to seventh and Byrd up to eighth. John Curtis Christian is ninth with Captain Shreve falling to tenth.

Brother Martin drops out after being forced to forfeit five games, though the Crusaders are 7-0 on the field.

Karr pitched a shutout over Belle Chasse and stays at No. 1 in Class 4A with Neville second and idle Warren Easton third. Huntington is fourth with Salmen fifth. Westgate is sixth with Carver seventh. St. Thomas More moves up to eighth with Northwood ninth and Cecilia at No. 10.

Unbeaten University High remains atop the Class 3A rankings with unbeaten Sterlington second and Madison Prep third. Unbeatens E.D. White Catholic and Church Point complete the top five. De La Salle is up to sixth with Lutcher seventh. St. James is eighth with Lake Charles College Prep, ineligible for the playoffs, up to ninth and Iowa at No. 10.

St. Charles Catholic remains unbeaten and at No. 1 in Class 2A with Lafayette Christian, who was idle, second. Many is third with Amite fourth and unbeaten Loreauville at No. 5. Unbeaten General Trass was idle and is No. 6 with unbeaten Episcopal seventh. Notre Dame, Newman and Avoyelles round out the top 10.

Unbeaten Ouachita Christian remains on top in Class 1A with Calvary Baptist second. Southern Lab is third with Ascension Catholic fourth and Opelousas Catholic up to fifth. Grand Lake is sixth with Cedar Creek seventh and Oak Grove eighth. Hanson Memorial and Vermilion Catholic round out the top 10.
