NEW ORLEANS — Sophomore Kyla Duncan extended her home double-double streak, and senior Maya Trench had her best game of the season to lead Xavier University of Louisiana to an 85-57 women’s basketball victory Monday against the University of the Virgin Islands.

The Gold Nuggets (3-2) have won 15 straight at the Convocation Center, two this season.

Duncan was 7-of-8 from the floor and finished with 14 points, a season high, and 10 rebounds. She has produced a double-double in both home games this season. Trench, a three-year starter relegated to reserve duty this season, produced season highs of 13 points, six assists and two steals in 20 minutes.

Trench and Essence Wells made three 3-pointers apiece to help XULA finish with a season-high-tying 10.

XULA led 52-24 at halftime and 72-38 through three quarters. Trench’s basket at 2:07 of the third quarter gave the Gold Nuggets their largest lead, 68-31.

Allana Hurst had 20 points, nine assists and three steals for UVI (0-6), and Jadyn Rice had 13 points and nine rebounds.

XULA shot 45.7 percent from the floor and 84.6 percent from the line and produced 24 assists and 18 steals, all season highs. Fourteen-of-15 Gold Nuggets scored. UVI shot 31.7 from the floor and committed 26 turnovers, nine more than XULA.

XULA will travel to Tuscaloosa, Ala., to play Stillman at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday. The next home game will start at 5 p.m. Monday against Huston-Tillotson.

“The key for us on the road,” said XULA head coach Bo Browder, whose team is 1-2 away from home, “is to match the energy we have at home. Stillman on Wednesday will be a big test for our team.”
