NEW ORLEANS — Xavier University of Louisiana women’s basketball owes a debt of gratitude to Mississippi’s capital city.

Jackson residents Nina German and Lailaa Bashir combined for 25 points Monday to lead XULA to a 57-50 victory against William Carey.

German, a junior guard, scored a career-high 15 points, and Bashir — a sophomore guard and tennis All-American in her second collegiate basketball game — scored 10 points to reach double figures for the first time. The duo combined to make 6-of-9 3-pointers; German made all three of her attempts.
