XULA wins doubleheader at Voorhees, improves to 22-6

ENMARK, S.C. — Xavier University of Louisiana swept a Saturday doubleheader from Voorhees to win a two-day, four-game baseball series.

XULA produced seven extra-base hits in an 18-10 first-game victory, then won 6-1 in the second game. XULA won the final three games of the series after dropping the opener.

Tristan Rodriguez hit his XULA-leading fifth home run of the season in the opener. The other extra-base hits in that game were a Jonathan Santos triple and doubles by Blair Frederick, Jose Fulgencio, Courtland Posey, Antonio Rodriguez and Co Co Simoneaux.

The 18 runs matched XULA’s most in a game this season. XULA won 18-14 at Stillman on Feb. 26. XULA has scored 10-or-more runs nine times this season.

XULA is 22-6, and Voorhees is 5-15.

The Gold Rush is in the midst of nine consecutive road games to conclude the regular season. It hopes to qualify for the Association of Independent Institutions Tournament May 8-10 at Lawrenceville, Ga.; that winner will qualify automatically for NAIA nationals beginning May 17.

Next for XULA will be a noon Tuesday doubleheader against NCAA Division II Lane at Jackson, Tenn.
