Pineville, La. – Xavier University of Louisiana lost 5-3 and 7-0 Saturday to Louisiana Christian in a Red River Athletic Conference doubleheader that closed the baseball regular season for both teams.

Both the Gold Rush (19-23 overall, 15-17 RRAC, eighth place) and the Wildcats (30-15, 22-11, third place) will compete in the eight-team league tournament starting Friday in Sterlington, La.

XULA never led in the opener, but closed the margin to 4-3 in the fourth inning when Matt Muhleisen tripled home Blair Frederick. Courtland Posey followed with a home run.

In the second game, six LCU pitchers combined on the shutout, XULA’s third this season.

Gold Rush freshman left-hander Joseph Semien struck out eight. Muhleisen and Skyler Roberts produced four hits apiece over the two games.

XULA, in its first RRAC season, was 7-4 in the openers of three-game conference series but 8-13 in the second and third games of those series.
