XULA defeats Rust, 8-7
HOLLY SPRINGS, Miss. — Xavier University of Louisiana was awarded an 8-7 baseball victory Tuesday against Rust after two XULA players were injured in the outfield in a collision while attempting to catch a batted ball.
The second game of the doubleheader was canceled.
The XULA players collided during a none-out Rust RBI double in the bottom of the sixth inning. Both were taken to a Memphis, Tenn., medical facility for treatment.
XULA is 16-19, and Rust is 17-20.
Next for the Gold Rush is a three-game Red River Athletic Conference series at Our Lady of the Lake in San Antonio, Texas. XULA and OLLU will play at 6 p.m. CDT Friday, then a noon Saturday doubleheader. XULA is 7-17 in the RRAC and in 10th place; the Saints are 14-9 and fifth.
