NEW ORLEANS — Xavier University of Louisiana’s Jose Fulgencio was chosen Association of Independent Institutions Hitter of the Week in baseball for March 29-April 4.

Fulgencio — a freshman infielder from Orlando, Fla., and a graduate of TNXL Academy — hit .556 (5-for-9) during XULA’s 4-0 week with two doubles, five runs, three walks and five RBIs. Other percentages were .778 slugging and .667 on-base.

XULA is 16-4 this season — winner of 12 of its last 13 games — and Fulgencio is hitting .438 with 14 RBIs, 21 runs and 14 stolen bases in 17 games.

Next for XULA: a three-game home series against Mississippi University for Women at Wesley Barrow Stadium.
They’ll play at 4:30 p.m. Friday in a nine-inning game, then a noon Saturday doubleheader — two seven-inning games. MUW is 15-5 after splitting a Tuesday home doubleheader with Stillman.
