Xavier Gold Nuggets win outright GCAC women’s basketball championship
NEW ORLEANS — Jas Hill had 21 points and 10 rebounds Monday to lead Xavier University of Louisiana to a 66-57 Gulf Coast Athletic Conference women’s basketball victory against Philander Smith, giving the Gold Nuggets an outright regular-season championship.
Hill produced her first double-double of the season.
Essence Wells scored 17 points for the Gold Nuggets (23-6, 13-1).
Terralyn Dominick had 16 points and six steals for Philander Smith (16-14, 7-7).
XULA will be the No. 1 seed in the GCAC Tournament at Jacksonville, Fla. Four quarterfinal games will be played Friday. The GCAC will announce pairings at noon Tuesday.
