It is looking like St. Paul’s could be the primary challenger to the Brother Martin dynasty in Division I wrestling this season.

The Wolves backed up an impressive dual meet win over Jesuit with an even more impressive 45-18 victory over Holy Cross Wednesday evening.

The Wolves won nine of the 13 matches contested and claimed another weight class win by forfeit.

Scoring falls for the Wolves were Michael Rader (126), Peyton Ward (152) and Blain Cascio (170).

The best match of the evening was at 132 pounds where Sean Cripple of St. Paul’s edged Charles Sauerwin III of Holy Cross 8-7.

Winning by pin for the Tigers were Evan Frost (113) and Jacob Frost (120).

Catholic of Baton Rouge and Archbishop Rummel will play for the Division I football championship Friday night at 7 p.m. at Yulman Stadium.

The two rivals hooked up on the mat Wednesday night in a preliminary to the football game with the Bears handling the Raiders 66-15.

Scoring falls for Catholic were John Michael Cuba (113), Hunter Goodson (132), Ian Wyble (160), Canon Hunt (170) and Macullen Mire (182).

Rummel is waiting for a host of football players who will be starters in wrestling which should make the Raiders a contender in Division II this season while Catholic is certainly among the top five teams, per usual, in Division I.
Grace King defeated Mandeville 45-36 and lost to East Ascension 75-6 in Tri-Meet action.
