Wrestling: St. Paul’s beats Chalmette; Hahnville downs Destrehan, St. Amant over Live Oak
In a good dual meet Wednesday night, visiting St. Paul’s held off Chalmette 45-35.
The Wolves won seven of 13 matches contested in a closely fought match.
Scoring falls for St. Paul’s were Sean Cripple (106), Carter Duet (113), Nicholas Raspino (126), Rhett Barker (152), Charlie Layman (160), and Sam Avenel (195).
For the Owls, Jackson Hoyte (145), Devin Ruiz (170), Christian Moore (182), Jalen Ben (220) and Jaden Ben (285) scored pins.
Several of the Wolves top wrestlers did not participate but it was still a good showing by both programs.
The Wolves will next participate in the Trey Culotta Tournament at Brother Martin this weekend.
Hahnville downed rival Destrehan 54-18.
Each of the two sides won four matches but the Tigers won by claiming five forfeit victories.
Scoring falls for the Tigers were Clayton Cambre (113), Devin Domengeaux (132), Shannon Summers (170) and Tyrique Guidry (195). Winning by pin for the Wildcats were Devin Inguagiato (126), Rafael Santiago (152) and Denzel Riley (160).
In the Baton Rouge area, St. Amant edged Live Oak 39-35.
Live Oak actually won seven of the 12 matches contested but the Gators claimed forfeits at 220 and 285 pounds and scored four pins to take the close win.
Winning by fall for St. Amant were Lucien Naquin (126), Joseph Cagayao (138), Garrett Parks (170) and Hunter Hawkins (182). Winning by pin for the Eagles were Jack Manchego (145), Anthony Dodson (152), Austin Cook (195) and Nicholas Fusiller (220).
