Wrestling: Holy Cross, Chalmette win weekend tournaments

For the third straight year, Holy Cross captured the Border Wars Tournament at South Walton High School in Santa Rosa Beach, Florida in an event featuring 20 teams. Three teams from Louisiana were part of the deep field.

The Tigers easily outdistanced Palmetto Ridge High (FL) with St. Paul’s a close third. Jesuit finished sixth.

Chalmette was victorious in the Battle of New Orleans at Chalmette. The Owls finished well ahead of second-place Dutchtown with Fontainebleau finishing third. Bonnabel was fourth with Lakeshore fifth.

Chalmette had five straight individual winners, including Mohammed Aldelhaq (145), Christian Moore (182), DaiJon Bibbs (195), Jalen Ben (220) and Jaden Ben (285).

Brother Martin dominated in the Crusader Duals at Conlin Gymnasium, going 5-0.

The Crusaders topped Spanish Fort, AL 71-13, defeated Archbishop Shaw 73-3, beat St. Louis Catholic 68-6, defeated Teurlings Catholic 60-9 and blanked Hahnville 84-0.

The Brother Martin “B” squad also went unbeaten, going 4-0. They defeated Belle Chasse 51-30, Teurlings Catholic 42-30, Hahnville 48-24, and Rummel 75-6.

Archbishop Shaw was impressive, going 4-1, along with St. Louis Catholic. The Eagles defeated Archbishop Rummel 48-27, beat De La Salle 64-9, downed Spanish Fort 47-36 and defeated Teurlings Catholic 40-39 in a thriller that featured two of the top teams in Division II in the state.

Among other teams, Teurlings Catholic went 2-3, Belle Chasse was 1-3, Rummel was 1-4 and De La Salle and Hahnville went 0-5.
