Wrestling: Brother Martin wins Trey Culotta Tournament
It was a forgone conclusion.
After building an insurmountable lead after one day, host Brother Martin captured the annual Trey Culotta Invitational at Bob Conlin Gymnasium in Gentilly Saturday.
The host Crusaders amassed 781.5 points with St. Paul’s a distant second with 509.5 points. Vestavia Hills, Alabama was third with 468 points with Parkway fourth at 421.5 points and Strawberry Crest, Florida finished fifth with 414 points.
Claiming individual titles for Brother Martin were Connor Hoffman (106), Ethan Castex (113) and Daniel Croy (126). Finishing second for the Crusaders were Luke Cotton (132), Patrick Evans (145) and Mack Brown (285).
The only other local to win an individual title was Cole Houser of St. Paul’s at 138 pounds. Finishing second for the Wolves were Peyton Ward (120), Brandon Stein (126) and Grant Hughes (152).
Archbishop Shaw had a pair of second place finishers, including Ashton Surrency at 106 pounds while Eduardo Garcia was second at 170 pounds.
