Wrestling: Brother Martin rolls over St. Amant, East Ascension as tri-meet schedule picks up

Brother Martin continued to roll over opponents, downing St. Amant 52-10 in a dual meet at Conlin Gymnasium Tuesday night.

Heavyweight (285) Mack Brown scored a pair of pins to pace the Crusaders.

The most significant matchup was Patrick Evans of Brother Martin moving up from the 145-pound class to wrestle defending state champion Brad Mahoney of East Ascension at 152 pounds.

In a great match, Evans edged Mahoney 6-5.

The Crusaders return to action next Wednesday evening in a showdown at Holy Cross at 6 p.m. pitting perhaps the two best teams in the state against each other.

Also scoring falls for the Crusaders were Eric Devenport (106), Ethan Castex (113), Ross Mayer (126), Ben Wilson (138), Michael Clapp (182), Cameron Frederick (195), Kyle West (220) and Kolbe Landry (220).

Tonight, there are two tri-meets and one dual meet locally.

Mandeville hosts both Chalmette at Fontainebleau at 6 p.m., Thomas Jefferson, John Ehret and NOMMA hook up in another on the West Bank. In a dual meet, Covington is at Archbishop Hannan.
