Woodlawn, McKinley, Caldwell, Marksville, Varnado, East Feliciana, Tensas, Haynes, Houma Christian opt out of state football playoffs

Four schools who qualified for the LHSAA playoff brackets announced earlier Sunday will not participate.

In Class 4A, No. 32 Woodlawn of Shreveport will not play at No. 1 Carencro due to having to quarantine from COVID-19 issues.

As a result, the Bears advance to the second round to face the winner of No. 17 Lakeshore at No. 16 DeRidder.

In 3A, No. 30 Caldwell Parish has pulled out, electing to forfeit to No. 3 Lake Charles College Prep, who advances to the second round to face the winner of No. 19 Iowa vs. No. 14 South Beauregard.

Also in 3A, COVID-19 has knocked No. 26 Marksville out so No. 7 Green Oaks advances to play the winner of the St. Martinville vs. Kaplan game.

A pair of Class 2A opening week games have also resulted in forfeits.

Ferriday will have a bye following a forfeit from East Feliciana. The Trojans will play winner of Port Allen/Pine in next round.

Many will now advance to the regional round following a forfeit from Varnado. The Tigers will play the winner of South Plaquemines/Franklin.

In 1A, No. 22 Tensas has opted out, giving a forfeit win to No. 11 Centerville, who advances to play at No. 6 Oberlin in the second round.

In Division I, No. 12 McKinley has opted out of its opening round contest with No. 5 Archbishop Rummel so the defending state champion Raiders advance to play at No. 4 Catholic of Baton Rouge at Memorial Stadium in the quarterfinals.

In Division II, No. 11 Haynes Academy had to forfeit due to a member of the program testing positive for COVID-19. As a result, No. 6 seed Vandebilt Catholic advances to the quarterfinals to face the winner of No. 3 University Lab and No. 14 Evangel.

In Division III, No. 12 Houma Christian has opted out so defending state champion Lafayette Christian, the No. 5 seed, advances to the quarterfinals to play at unbeaten No. 4 seed Episcopal.
