Women’s Basketball: UNO falls in home tilt to A&M-Corpus Christi

NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans women’s basketball program had a half-time lead but couldn’t withstand a second-half charge as the Privateers dropped a Southland Conference decision to visiting A&M-Corpus Christi, 66-53, at the UNO Lakefront Arena on Wednesday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
– New Orleans fell in an early hole as A&M-Corpus Christi jumped out to a 15-9 lead after the first quarter of play.
– The Privateers battled back with a big second as New Orleans finished with a 21-14 edge to take a 30-29 lead at the half.
– A&M-CC countered that in the third with a 15-9 edge to retake a 44-39 advantage into the final frame.
– The Islanders closed out the game with a 22-14 fourth to take home the 66-53 victory.

GAME NOTES
– Mary Delgado led the way for New Orleans as she finished with a game-high 20 points on 7-of-15 shooting from the field (3-of-6 from beyond the arc). She also added four rebounds, three assists and two steals. It was the second-highest point total during a single-game recorded during her career.
– Shooting guard Mia Deck reached double-digits for the second-straight game after she returned from injury as she netted 12 points, four assists, two boards and two steals. The assist total tied a season and career-best for the Dallas, Texas native.
– Zanaa Cordis notched a career-best three blocks to go with five rebounds and an assist.
– Erin Randle chipped in six points and six boards.
– It was a close affair throughout the evening on the Lakefront as the game featured 14 lead changes and six ties. UNO led for 10:48 while A&M-CC held the edge for 27:14.
– Eight student-athletes scored in total for the Privateers in the contest.
– New Orleans forced 16 turnovers.

New Orleans continues its Southland homestand as the Privateers host Nicholls on Saturday, Feb. 27 at the UNO Lakefront Arena. Tipoff is set for 3 PM CT as the contest serves as the opening game of a doubleheader with the men’s basketball program.
