TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Nicholls State University women’s basketball team surrendered a season-high 13 3-pointers to the University of Alabama, as the Colonels dropped a Wednesday night matchup against the Crimson Tide, 86-46, in Coleman Coliseum.

The matchup was added earlier this week after Alabama’s midweek game against Southern Miss was canceled. Nicholls will stay on the road to take on USM Friday night.

Nicholls shot 42.6 percent against Alabama, which improved to 6-0 on the year but gave up the ball 28 times against the Tide. Colonel turnovers and red-hot shooting by Alabama made way for a 27-6 advantage after just 10 minutes of play. The Crimson Tide outscored Nicholls in each quarter but needed a late 3-pointer in the third for a 13-12 advantage in the period.

Alabama pulled away even further with a 10-0 spurt to start the fourth. The largest lead for UA was 42 with a minute to go before Bryanna Washington scored late for the Colonels.

Washington made her first start of the season and totaled four points and five rebounds. Junior Chyna Allen reached double figures in scoring for the fourth consecutive game with 10 points, and Chelsea Cain scored 11 points and added seven rebounds.

Alabama was led by Jasmine Walker with 21 points, 11 rebounds, three blocks, and three steals. Keyara Jones made five of the Tide’s 13 3-balls and finished with 17 points.
