SAN MARCOS, Texas – Nicholls State University senior guard Cassidy Barrios recorded her fourth 20-point showing in as many games, but it was not enough as the Colonels were defeated, 71-56, by Delaware Saturday evening in the Preseason WNIT.

The Colonels lost all three games in the preseason tournament, falling to Auburn and this weekend’s host Texas State before the matchup with Delaware (1-2). Nicholls sits with an 0-4 record after two weeks of play in the 2018-19 season.

Barrios scored 15 of her 23 in the first half to help Nicholls to a 31-31 tie at the break against the Blue Hens, but Delaware created some separation in the third quarter. An 11-0 run early in the game put Nicholls behind until Barrios sank a 3-pointer for a 34-33 lead. Towards the end of the period, Delaware outscored the Colonels, 8-2, and went into the final quarter with a 47-41 lead.

Early in the fourth, a 3-pointer by Delaware’s Abby Gonzales put the deficit at double figures, and Nicholls never came closer than nine points the rest of the way. Gonzales had three 3-pointers in the second half and finished with a team-high 20 points.

Barrios was joined in double figures by freshman Adrian Mann, who had a career-high 14 points. Nicholls shot 57.1 percent from 3-point range (8-14), led by Mann’s 3-for-4 night. Barrios made a team-high four 3s at a 50 percent clip. However, Nicholls finished at 35.6 percent from the field and had 22 turnovers.
