West Monroe rolls past Ouachita, 49-18

The West Monroe Rebels locked up at least a share of 23rd consecutive District 2-5A title with a 49-18 route of Ouachita on Friday in Monroe.

Running back Cameron Wright led the way with 19 carries for 140 yards and three touchdowns.

West Monroe used a pair of kick return fumbles from Ouachita in their own territory to quickly build a 28-0 lead in the first half.

Special teams struggled for Ouachita, including missing three PAT kicks and giving up a 40-yard punt return for touchdown by Michael Hamburg.

West Monroe returns to Rebel Stadium next Friday to host Natchitoches Central with a chance to win the district crown outright and extend a streak that began in 1996.
