West Monroe posts fourth straight playoff shutout to down Ehret, reach Class 5A title game
West Monroe completed the unthinkable accomplishment Friday with its fourth straight playoff shutout in a 28-0 win over No. 4 John Ehret on Don Shows Field at Rebel Stadium.
The top-seeded Rebels (14-0) scored on offense, defense and special teams in another dominating performance that sets up a Class 5A state championship matchup against defending champion and No. 6 seed Zachary at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome next Saturday night.
Quarterback Garrett Kahamann passed for 135 yards and rushed for one touchdown while wide receiver Michael Hamburg rushed for a 67-yard touchdown and returned a punt 62 yards to paydirt.
In the first meeting between West Monroe and Ehret, a 44-20 win for the Rebels over the Patriots to open the regular season, West Monroe capitalized on special teams miscues.This time around, the Rebel defense pitched a shutout, intercepting quarterback Travis Mumphrey four times including a 49-yard pick-six by Noby Harris in the second quarter.
The John Ehret defense held the West Monroe offense in check with just one touchdown through three quarters. Kahmann rushed for a one-yard score in the final five minutes to put the game away.
