West Monroe flexed its muscle in all three phases of the game enroute to a 24-7 win over cross-town rival Neville on Friday on Don Shows Field at Rebel Stadium.

Quarterback Lane Little rushed for 85 yards and two touchdowns including a dagger in the fourth quarter – darting up the middle for a 21-yard touchdown.

“Our kids kept fighting and they just find a way,” West Monroe offensive coordinator Glenn Hunt said. “I thought Lane Little had his best game as a Rebel.”

West Monroe (2-1) jumped out to a 14-0 lead but Neville answered with a Brett Batteford touchdown toss and after a Rebel punt it appeared that the Tigers were poised to tie things up after forcing a punt and driving inside the Rebel 20-yard line.

The Rebel defense then made perhaps the play of the night as Batteford was flushed out of the pocket and fired downfield on the run.

West Monroe junior defensive back Josh Cobb stepped in front of the receiver and made the interception hugging the sideline at the West Monroe seven-yard line.

The Rebels then pitched a shutout in the second half.

“Our offensive line played well in the first half,” Neville coach Jeff Tannehill said. “The defense played physical all night. Timing is a lot on offense, we changed some terminology and we are not clicking on all cylinders yet.”

West Monroe will start District 2-5A play hosting the Alexandria Trojans while Neville (1-2) hosts Franklin Parish to begin District 2-4A play.
