Football’s transfer portal had as many as 6,600 players in it as of last week.

That number includes two locals with West Bank roots looking for new homes.

Defensive back Kaine Williams, a John Ehret product, was the seventh ranked prospect in the state in the 2021 class. The 6-foot-2, 203 pounder was the overall top rated safety. He signed with Alabama but now Williams is the 24th player in that program to have entered his name in the portal this year.

Williams tallied 52 tackles with 10 for losses along with seven pass breakups and three interceptions as a senior at Ehret. He totaled 13 interceptions with the Patriots. Williams was limited to a few snaps late in the 2021 season for the Crimson Tide.

Outside linebacker Kelin Burrle (6-0, 208) was the 33rd rated player in Louisiana and third ranked at his position in the 2020 class before signing with Arkansas.

The Helen Cox alum who played four varsity seasons has four years of college eligibility remaining.
