NEW ORLEANS – Two weeks ago they were blown out by the Karr Cougars, but Friday night was one at Tad Gormley Stadium in which Warren Easton looked like they could beat anybody.

Quarterback Lance Legendre scored four total touchdowns and passed for 212 yards in just over a quarter of work as the 4th seeded Warren Easton Eagle’s crushed the North Desoto Griffins 54-0 to advance to the Class 4A quarterfinals.

“We’re gonna enjoy tonight,” said Warren Easton head coach Jerry Phillips. “Tomorrow we’re gonna go back to work and prepare for who we play next We’re gonna take it one week at a time, we’re just working on ourselves and if we go out and play Warren Easton football we’re gonna be okay.”

Although the game may have been one sided, Griffin’s coach Scott Abernathy was looking forward to the direction his team is heading in.

“We’re an 8-4 football team,” he said. “We’ve got 9 players coming back on offense, 8 coming back on defense. I wish we would’ve played better tonight for our seniors but like I said we’re an 8-win football team so I hope we can build on that momentum in the future and I’m looking forward to what we can do moving forward.”

The Eagles didn’t take long to get things started as Legendre took his team 50 yards in just 3 plays completing both of his pass attempts for 37 yards and running it in from 6-yards out to put the Eagles up 6-0 after having their extra point attempt blocked.

Warren Easton kept things going right along on their next possession as Legendre threw 74 yards while going 3-for-3 and used his legs once more on an 11-yard rush to put 6 more points up on the board.

After North Desoto was forced to punt for the third straight time, Warren Easton did what it did all night moving 71 yards in 4 plays finishing the drive off on a 47-yard deep pass from Legendre to Damien Tate who walked into the end zone for the touchdown to make the score 18 nothing after a failed 2-point conversion attempt.

Legendre ran for one more touchdown from 16 yards out before exiting the game gripping his throwing shoulder. Phillips said his start quarterback was in good shape.

He’s good,” Phillips said. “He’s gonna be fin. We just wanted to get Joe (Edwards) in their early and get him some playing time since it’s his last year.”

Based off of play no one would have noticed a change at quarterback even occurred as Edwards would complete a good-looking 15-yard touchdown pass to Sheldon Jones on his first possession of the game to extend the lead.

Larry Barbino and Ashaas Clayton would add rushing touchdowns and Edwards would toss another score to Kentrell Boyd to finish up the Eagles scoring.

Warren Easton (9-4) is set to take on Shreveport-Woodlawn next week in the quarterfinals. Phillips reiterated that his team is just focusing inward.

“(Shreveport-Woodlawn) puts up a lot of points,” he said. “It’s gonna be a good game and whoever we play it doesn’t matter because we’re just focusing on us and if we play our ball we’re gonna be okay.”
