Warhawks unable to slow Troy, 12-7

MONROE, La. – Troy scored the first 10 runs of the game and held on for a 12-7 win over ULM Saturday afternoon at Warhawk Field to clinch a series win.

Brady Fuller (3-1) fired six innings to earn the win for Troy, allowing four runs, three earned, on eight hits with nine strikeouts and two walks. Cole Cressend (3-3) suffered the loss for ULM, giving up six runs, five earned, on four hits with two strikeouts and three walks.

Easton Kirk had three hits and two RBIs for Troy, while Jesse Hall had two hits and four RBIs. Kyle Mock had two hits and three RBIs. Mason Holt led ULM with two hits and three RBIs, hitting a 3-run home run, his eighth of the season.

ULM had scoring opportunities in the second and third innings, putting runners on first and second in each inning, but double play balls cut the threats short.

Troy took the lead in the top of the third on Hall’s two-out solo home run for the 1-0 advantage.

The Trojans blew the game open in the fourth, scoring six runs, including a homer from Kirk and a 2-RBI double by Hall. Troy added three more runs in the fifth, with a 2-RBI single by Mock with two outs serving as the key hit, expanding the lead to 10-0.

ULM started to chip away in the bottom of the inning as Holt hit a 3-run homer. However, Troy answered back with two more runs in the sixth inning on a 2-run homer by Clay Stearns.

ULM’s Michelle Artzberger had an RBI single in the bottom of the sixth inning, while Chase DeJean hit a 2-RBI double in the seventh. ULM tacked on one more run in the eighth on Ryan Cupit’s RBI triple to get within 12-7.

The series concludes at 1 p.m. Sunday at Warhawk Field.
