MONROE, La. – ULM women’s basketball head coach Brooks Donald Williams announced the signing of 2022 Louisiana High School Basketball Coaches Association All-Star and in-state center Sha’Miya Butler. Butler joins Louisiana Class 3A Player of the Year Myca Trail and NJCAA Tournament semifinalist Nakyah Jones in the 2022 Signing Class.

Sha’Miya Butler, a 6-2 center from West Monroe, has been a dominant force in the success of Coach John Green’s teams over the last four seasons. As a junior, Butler and the Rebels fell just short of a state championship appearance which landed her on the LHSBCA’s All-State team.
“Sha’Miya was one of the very first players we offered when we got to Monroe,” Williams said. “We greatly value that she comes from one of the most well-respected and well-coached programs in the state and region. Adding a hometown girl from West Monroe with her abilities, upside and character is going to improve our program instantly. We are excited about the decision Sha’Miya has made to want to battle in the paint right here on the bayou. We can’t wait to get to work.”
A top player in the state of Louisiana, according to Louisiana Girls Report, Butler averaged a double-double with 10 points, 11 rebounds and three blocked shots per game leading her team in powerhouse District 2-5A. Her presence in the paint affected her team’s performance both offensively and defensively. She earned All-District honors in all four seasons playing for the Rebels.
“Since I discovered basketball, it has been my dream to play at the next level,” Butler said. “Thanks to my family, friends, and coaches that have helped me to achieve that goal. I am beyond grateful to be a part of the ULM women’s basketball program. It’s exciting to be able to represent my hometown doing what I love while continuing my education. Go Hawks!”
Butler participated in the LHSBCA All Star game on March 19 in Alexandria. Butler suited up on the East and squared up against future teammate Myca Trail from the West.
“We are still diligently working to complete our 2022 signing class,” Williams said. “Adding Sha’Miya today was big for us. All three players fit needs for us. Myca Trail, Nakyah Jones and Sha’Miya all have an opportunity to impact in their own positions right away. We are thrilled. Hawk Yeah!”
