CINCINNATI, Ohio — Tulane volleyball lost a hard-fought match against Cincinnati, Sunday afternoon in Cincinnati, Ohio, falling 3-1 (19-25, 26-28, 25-17, 20-25). The Green Wave drop to 12-8 overall, 1-6 The American on the season.

Tulane lost the opening set as Cincinnati struck first, outscoring the Green Wave, 5-1, to begin the match. Cincinnati maintained its lead and opened a 15-6 lead, before a monster block by freshman right side hitter Kristen Thompson reinvigorated the team and helped the Green Wave narrow the gap to four points. Tulane, however, could not complete the comeback, and Cincinnati pulled out the set win, 25-19.

The Green Wave came out strong in the second set, finding their footing after a rocky first set. Senior setter Justine Bowers notched three kills to give Tulane an early 10-7 lead. Cincinnati fought to keep the score close and tied the set at 15 apiece, as the two teams exchanged points. Tied at 24, the Green Wave struggled to close out the set, allowing Cincinnati to take advantage and win, 28-26.

Tulane struck first in the third set, scoring off an emotionally charged kill from sophomore right side hitter Alexis Silver. The Green Wave continued to play well in all phases of the game, pulling ahead, 13-8, and forcing Cincinnati to call a timeout. Tulane continued its roll after the timeout, notching five unanswered points before winning the set, 25-17.

Cincinnati pulled away in the fourth set, building an early 14-8. The Green Wave maintained their attack, cutting the deficit to three points, but could not slow Cincinnati’s attack and dropped the final set, 25-20, to end the match.
