Volleyball: Sarah Reed, Ponchatoula, John Curtis among match winners Monday
Area Prep Volleyball Report for Tuesday, Oct. 20
Sarah Reed continued to play well, winning its fourth straight match with a 25-12, 25-21, 27-25 victory Monday over Abramson Sci Academy.
Sarah Reed was 24th in the most recent Division IV power ratings but the Olympians are rising.
The Olympians (10-7) return to action at Martin Luther King Charter in a District 7-IV contest today at 5:30 p.m.
Ponchatoula bounced back from a pair of losses with a 25-19, 25-19, 25-5 victory over St. Thomas Aquinas at Hammond Monday.
The Green Wave (11-5) return to action at Slidell today at 5 p.m. in a District 5-I contest. The Falcons (9-6) will host Pope John Paul II Thursday at 5:30 p.m. in a District 4-IV match.
With a young squad, John Curtis Christian lost its first two matches of the season.
Since then, the maturing, talented Patriots have run off 16 wins in 17 matches to establish themselves as a genuine threat to win Division IV this year.
Curtis has now won 11 straight matches after downing a very good Ben Franklin squad 25-16, 26-24, 27-25 at River Ridge.
Sierra Sacco had 15 kills while Jacke Melancon finished with 10 kills while Danielle Taix had 43 assists.
Maddie Meeker finished with 12 kills while Grace Delpit finished with 10 kills for Ben Franklin.
The Patriots were third in the most recent LHSAA Division IV power ratings.
Both teams return to action today as the Patriots (16-3) host St. James at 4:30 p.m. while the Falcons (19-5) play at Baton Rouge High today at 6 p.m.
