Volleyball Report: John Curtis, SSA with season opening wins; state champs MCA, Country Day square off Wednesday

John Curtis and St. Scholastica opened their respective volleyball seasons with impressive victories Tuesday.

The Patriots handled Salmen 25-7, 15-14, 25-18 at home. John Curtis returns to action today, hosting Thomas Jefferson at 5:30 p.m. in River Ridge. The Spartans are also back in action this afternoon, at Covington at 4 p.m.

Pete Bertucci made his return to St. Scholastica in successful fashion Tuesday as St. Scolastica downed Fontainebleau 25-23, 25-23, 25-21 in a hotly contested match between outstanding teams at SSA. Bertucci is in his third stint as head coach of the Doves.

Madison Meyers led the Doves attack with 11 kills while Macey Migliore had nine kills. Evey Waguespack added 32 assists. Emily Mathews topped the Bulldogs with 10 kills.

St. Scholastica returns to action this afternoon at Northlake Christian at 4:30 p.m. while Fontaintainebleau returns to action Thursday at Ursuline at 5:30 p.m.

This afternoon, it is a battle of titans as defending state champions Country Day (Division V) and Mount Carmel (Division I) square off in the season opener for both sides at Mount Carmel at 5:30 p.m.
