Volleyball Report: Dominican, PJP II, SSA, Teurlings, Ursuline win both opening matches in Catholic League Tournament

It was a good start for hosts Dominican and Ursuline, along with Pope John Paul II, St. Scholastica and Teurlings Catholic on the first day of the annual Catholic League Tournament as all five schools won both of their matches Friday.

Dominican (11-5) downed Catholic of New Iberia 25-11, 25-14 and defeated always tough St. Joseph’s Academy 25-23, 25-20 in an impressive win.

Ursuline (9-0) remained unbeaten, defeating St. Thomas Aquinas 25-15, 25-6 and downing E.D. White Catholic 25-16, 25-19.

Defending Division IV state champion Pope John Paul II (13-1) remained unbeaten in-state with an easy 25-6, 25-12 win over Ascension Catholic before dominating Notre Dame 25-13, 25-9 as the Jaguars ran their win streak to 12 in a row.

St. Scholastica (10-2) prevailed in a very tough match with Archbishop Chapelle 25-21, 29-31, 15-10 and the Doves scored a huge 25-17, 25-10 win over defending Division II state champion St. Thomas More.

Defending Division III state champion Teurlings Catholic (7-0) remained unbeaten, handling Cabrini 25-20, 25-12 before beating De La Salle 25-18, 25-17.

Action is underway at 9 a.m. this morning at both Dominican and Ursuline today.
