Area Prep Volleyball Report for Thursday, Oct. 1

Defending Division V state champion Country Day snapped a rare two-match losing streak Wednesday with a 25-17, 25-23, 27-25 home victory over Archbishop Hannan Wednesday.

Nia Washington led the Cajuns attack with 17 kills and 11 digs while Ellie Schneider had 14 kills and seven blocks. Ellison Vosbein added 15 digs, Lauren Perlis dished up 34 assists and Evelyn Rivas had four aces.

Cajuns coach Julie Ibieta feels her young team is improving by playing a very difficult schedule.

“The tough schedule is making us better,” Ibieta said. “We had seven seniors last year and one of our top players from last year moved to Dallas. We have inexperienced players but they are getting better every week.”

Country Day will always play the toughest schedule possible.

“I want to play people who will push us to get better,” Ibieta said. “We’re getting better as a tea and putting things together. I’m happy with our progress. We have a long way to go but we have a ton of potential. Hannan is a great team which had beaten Northshore the night before. This is a confidence boost for us. It was a positive step for us.”

Country Day (5-5) returns to action at defending Division III state champion Cabrini Friday at 5:30 p.m. while the Hawks (6-6) will host Ben Franklin Friday at 5:45 p.m.

Ben Franklin continued its fine play with a solid 25-12, 25-20, 25-17 victory over Riverdale Wednesday.

Laurette Compass led the Falcons with eight kills while Annabel Allen contributed 20 digs and three aces.

Ranked seventh in the most recent LHSAA Division II power rankings, Ben Franklin will host Archbishop Chapelle today at 4:30 p.m. while the Rebels (3-5) return to action next Wednesday, hosting East Jefferson at 4:30 p.m.
