Volleyball: Chapelle

Schools named after archbishops of New Orleans were impressive wins Wednesday.

Archbishop Chapelle scored a solid 25-21, 25-15, 25-19 over Slidell in Metairie.

Junior Hannah Volpi led the Chipmunks with seven kills, 11 assists and two aces. Meagan Scuderi had 19 digs and Rebecca LaCour had 14 assists for Chapelle.

The Chipmunks (10-6) open play in the Catholic League Tournament Friday against St. Scholastica at 6 p.m. and St. Thomas More at 7 p.m. at Ursuline. The Tigers (9-7) return to District 5-1 action today at 4 p.m. at Covington.

Archbishop Hannan continued to show that it a is a force, scoring a big win at home over always tough St. Scholastica 25-11, 20-25, 25-20, 27-25.

Junior Allee Morris, an LSU commit, led the way with 27 kills, eight blocks and five aces while Ava Valenti put away 14 kills for the Hawks (5-1). Evey Waguspack had 31 assists for the Doves (8-2).

Archbishop Hannan heads to the Mobile area for the McGill-Toolen Tournament this weekend while St. Scholastica opens play in the Catholic League Tournament against St. Thomas More 5 p.m. at Ursuline Friday before facing Archbishop Chapelle at 6 p.m.
